SEARCH: Student Energy in Action for Regina Community Health
Oaks’ Trauma-Informed Care training was incredibly valuable for our post-secondary student volunteers at SEARCH. Many of our students are entering healthcare and community work for the first time, and this training helped them better understand the experiences and realities many of our clients carry with them. Learning about trauma responses, triggers, ACEs, and the window of tolerance gave students a stronger understanding of why people may respond or engage in certain ways, especially within healthcare and support settings.
What stood out most about the training was how relatable and practical it felt. The facilitator created an open and welcoming environment that encouraged reflection and conversation, rather than just presenting information. Students appreciated the real-life examples and discussions around how systems and organizations can unintentionally retraumatize people, even when trying to help. The conversations around compassion fatigue and burnout were also especially important for students beginning work in helping professions.
Since taking the training, we’ve noticed students approaching client interactions with more patience, empathy, and confidence. It helped reinforce the importance of meeting people where they are at and creating spaces where clients feel safe, respected, and heard.
We would highly recommend Oaks’ Trauma-Informed Care training to students, healthcare professionals, educators, and community organizations. It was thoughtful, engaging, and provides practical tools that people can carry into both their professional and personal lives.
Little Bear Early Learning Centre
We had the opportunity to partner with Oaks Mental Health for several staff training sessions in December 2025 and January 2026. These sessions included Calming through connection & kids mental health, trauma-informed care for educators, and the cost of caring.
The educators leading these sessions were knowledgeable and truly understood the realities of working in early childhood settings. We absolutely loved the way the content was delivered, it felt supportive and practical.
Since completing the training, we have seen an immediate and meaningful shift in how our educators approach their practice. There is a stronger focus on connection, increased patience, and a deeper understanding of children's behaviours. Especially during moments of stress or deregulation.
These trainings have had a lasting impact on our centre, and we strongly recommend Oaks to any organization looking to strengthen their team's capacity in mental health and trauma-informed care.
Wynyard Cares
As an agency Oaks Mental Health has been a very beneficial group to work with for training staff and supervisors. We have taken the Cost of Caring a couple times, as I want my staff to understand that there is a cost to them inside, and they need to take care of themselves while in this line of work. The class about Checking on your Team was also a favourite of ours, as it got us thinking about how we speak to each other and the assumptions we make. We highly recommend Oaks Mental Health for training!
